Hollywood is unhappy that Margaritaville’s ads say that the resort is in “greater Fort Lauderdale.” But I agree with Nicki Grossman, Broward’s tourism boss, when she says to do “what sells.”
My husband and I, along with about 50 other volunteers, put on the Dania Beach Vintage Motorcycle Show every January in downtown Dania Beach, which is wedged between Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale.
We spend summers promoting the show throughout the southeast United States, and the first question is, “Where is Dania Beach?” Our answer is, “The Fort Lauderdale airport is in Dania Beach.”
This might be a little white lie, but it has helped our little event grow to more than 6,000 spectators.

Every year, fewer people ask where we are because the show is now well known.
In the last two years, we have had bikes entered from as far away as Canada.
I just hope Fort Lauderdale doesn’t try to jump on our bandwagon because we use their location in our ads.
