Needless deaths
According to credible reports, between 1,158 and 2,221 deaths in Florida could be prevented if the state embraced Medicaid expansion. The failure of Gov. Rick Scott, House Speaker Steve Crisafulli, and other Republicans in the Legislature is directly responsible for these unnecessary deaths, to say nothing of the unnecessary suffering of thousands of Floridians who will not have access to needed healthcare.
Scott and other Republicans are quick to pass laws restricting abortion, arguing that lives are saved. However, they are satisfied to participate in the deaths of more than 1,000 hard-working, low-income Floridians, when, with little effort, they could have saved all of those lives. It’s shameful and morally bankrupt.
