Last week’s story First time Miami-Dade grads take on high school, college — all at once was a fantastic reminder to South Florida families that they can cut college costs by as much as half by taking advantage of dual enrollment opportunities.
At FIU, our partnership with MDCPS has allowed an unprecedented number of students to earn college credit while in high school at no cost to them or their families, and in the process save millions of dollars in tuition.
Dual enrollment allows students to save money as well as time, because they are typically able to complete their college education in less than four years.
Since 2010, nearly 14,000 M-DCPS students have taken dual enrollment courses through FIU — resulting in more than $17 million in tuition savings.

Currently, there are more than 150 dual enrollment classes throughout South Florida high schools.
We look forward to continuing our work with M-DCPS to ensure a bright, successful future for all of the young people in our community.
