Congress underpaid?

Rep. Alcee Hastings, a Florida congressman , has declared that the members of Congress are deserving of a pay raise. He isn’t cutting it with his $174,000 annual salary, he said recently in a dramatic plea on the House floor.

Hastings has always had his eye on extra cash. Some 20 years ago, he was a federal judge who got caught with his hand in the till attempting to squeeze out money from litigants in exchange for a favorable decision.

He was impeached and removed from the bench by the same House of Congress in which he now sits.
