Tip hotel maids well
Re the Sept. 17 article Marriott putting envelopes in rooms for tips: I give Marriott two stars for doing this, but in reality it is not paying these people a living wage. I have never stayed in a hotel without leaving a tip for the maid. However, I am never sure if they receive it.
There are other people that go into a room after you leave. Experts say leave the tip at the desk for the maid to be sure she gets it. That is even worse advice. I make an effort to try and catch the maid out in the hallway and personally give her a tip.
Bottom line, good effort by Marriott, but better that it pay a living wage to the hardest working people in the hotel.
