Diving for tires

The May 17 article Divers on mission to remove 90,000 tires, reports an effort to remove 90,000 of the approximate 700,000 tires that were dumped in the Atlantic Ocean off Fort Lauderdale. The taxpayers have ponied up $1.6 million to clean up about 13 percent of the problem.

Perhaps, like the great Everglades python hunt, the program isn’t designed to deal with the problem, but rather is meant to enlighten us about a very serious environmental issue that nothing will be done about.
