Criticism tolerated

Re the Sept. 13 article, Elite Israeli spies refuse to target Palestinians: This is a telling story. Forty-three soldiers protesting what they regard as injustices, and they are able to speak to the media without fear. What a gloriously open society Israel is to accept such criticism as part of the give-and-take of democracy, even while the country is on a war-footing.

It is interesting too that 20 percent of Israel’s military, including the officers’ corps, is Arab, and every one of them is a volunteer. Also, 20 percent of students in Israeli universities are Arab as well, in exact proportion to their percentage of the population.

I wonder how any Islamic entity would respond to similar protests from its fighters?
