Insurance racket

Congressional opposition to regulating health care (Senate adopts GOP budget targeting 'Obamacare', May 6) can only continue so long as the insured remain unaware that cost shifting has jeopardized their own coverage.

The uninsured remain unaware that insurance is a protection racket that shields patients from the book value of care. Going without coverage is like gambling your life savings. Lose and go bust.

Meaningful reform would do away with charge masters and impose contractual rates on all providers.

Thirty grand for a test that can be performed in a doctor's office is ludicrous.
