Re the April 24 article A billboard tower that reaches the heavens: I totally agree with Scenic Miami’s opinion of Michael Simkins’ billboard tower in the proposed Miami Innovation District. It, indeed, is appalling.
Whereas Simkins regards the architectural firm that designed the tower as “world-class,” I believe “world-crass” would be more accurate. Simkins also needs another vocabulary check. He loves lofty words such as “iconic” and “enhance.”
The Statue of Liberty is iconic and enhances the entrance not only to New York City, but to the United States of America. Do we want our greeting to be a monstrous, flashing billboard, which is more suited to Times Square than to the beautiful city of Miami?
