Migoya: Welcome, Dr. Frenk

During the last four years, Donna Shalala has constantly proven the University of Miami’s commitment to public health in South Florida and beyond. The selection of Dr. Julio Frenk as her successor demonstrates the university’s ongoing passion for leadership in community wellness and innovative healthcare.

The taxpayer-owners of Jackson Health System are privileged to welcome a new partner with a record of leadership, accomplishment, and professionalism at the highest level.

In Dr. Frenk and his wife, Felicia Knaul, Miami is welcoming the kind of global thinkers who will help cement our place among the international leaders in academic thought and clinical practice.

I can think of no clearer way for the university to signal its permanent commitment to the community healthcare mission that is enshrined in its decades-long partnership with Jackson. Unquestionably, the progress that President Shalala shepherded between UM and Jackson will continue under President Frenk.
