UM’s new president
Finding a successor to the great Donna Shalala was not an easy task for the University of Miami’s board of trustees. She leaves an indelible mark on the institution, which has risen under her watch to being one of the finest in America.
Given the weight of this important decision, the board’s appointment of Dr. Julio Frenk as UM’s new president was an excellent move. As the first Hispanic to lead the university, he brings with him his exceptional experience from Harvard, a global leader in higher education. I join my colleagues in the academy in welcoming President Frenk and look forward to continuing the close relationship between the university and Miami Dade College.
I’m confident he will pick up where Shalala left off and will make an immediate connection with our great community.
Eduardo J. Padrón, president, Miami Dade College, Miami
