Recently, I overheard a friend congratulating a Coral Gables police officer for winning a countywide award at a Leo Awards ceremony. He was honored, along with several of the finest officers in the county, for excellence in service in 2014. He was proud and appreciative of being recognized for dedication and service.
This is a critical time for the nation’s police officers. They have been scrutinized, chastised and marginalized and little attention is given to all the good these officers do in their communities. I shudder to think of a society without them and often wonder how many of those who protest against them have at some time in their lives called them for assistance.
