The March 21 article, City’s fire staffing created extreme overtime for a few, omits the most important point.
The ridiculous overtime isn’t about just getting rich on the salary. The most senior members are close to retirement and double their pension dollars for the next 30 years. Instead of a $75,000 pension, they will get $150,000 a year for life.
And it isn't just the police and firefighters. Every file clerk and low level bureaucrat working at the cities of Miami Beach, Miami, Coral Gables and others are multimillionaires by virtue of their pensions.
The politicians and unions have plundered our pocketbooks and our futures while the public has been asleep at the wheel.
