According to Boy Scout Law: “A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.”
Can anyone honestly say President Trump upholds even a third of those character traits in his public and private life?
And yet, there was Trump at the National Scout Jamboree, inciting 40,000 Scouts to boo former President Obama and Hillary Clinton, and to promote the repeal of Obamacare.

To see Trump politicize scouting — and being allowed to by Boy Scouts of America (BSA) leadership — in such a blatant, ugly, and partisan manner, is nauseating.
Scouting is an invaluable endeavor in promoting positive youth development, and BSA has become more open and inclusive in reversing longstanding discriminatory stances toward the LGBTQ community.
The damage of Trump’s actions at the Jamboree is real and significant.
Going forward, BSA leadership needs to re-evaluate future interactions between this president and scouting.
