Trains a turnoff
Re Fabiola Santiago’s June 21 column, “There’s no excuse for filthy Metrorail trains:” The cars indeed are dirty.
Trains are crowded and often late. Burned-out light bulbs are not replaced. Air conditioners are poorly maintained and do not cool the cars adequately.
Metrorail’s response to these complaints is that new cars will be phased in over the next two to three years. Conditions at the rail stations are not much better. At Dadeland South, only one of the three elevators to the parking garage functions. The escalator to Datran Center has been broken for about a year. It is not unusual to find commuters standing in line to get an elevator.
Driving is getting to be more attractive than riding Metrorail.
