Amtrak’s future
Under the Trump budget proposal to cut Amtrak funding, Florida stands to lose long-distance services, including three routes — the auto train from Orlando to Washington, D.C., and two New York-to-Miami trains.
Florida Sen. Bill Nelson is supporting continued Amtrak funding; however, at a recent White House meeting about infrastructure, Gov. Rick Scott did not support Amtrak in Florida. Floridians and visitors to the state need to have suitable access to rail travel.
