Re Peter Cummings’ March 8 letter, Smart development can save the pine rocklands: Let’s be clear — no one is calling this a pristine pine forest.
That doesn’t mean that development of the area by RAM Realty, no matter how smart the plan, is the only hope. Once the fragmentation of the site by paving, building and traffic begins, all of the endangered plants and animals run an even higher risk of extinction.
The best option is for this property to become part of the Environmentally Endangered Land program so it can be restored and maintained for all to treasure.
We don’t want development on this imperiled pine rockland.
