Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has won reelection based on a 12th-hour xenophobic campaign that rejected possible Palestinian statehood and, worse, baited Israeli Arab citizens.
Couple these disgraceful tactics with his partisan behavior toward President Obama in his address to Congress, and the United States has every right to reevaluate its relationship with a right-wing Israeli government not committed to peace with Palestinians.
The unfortunate reality is that Netanyahu’s victory weakens the forces of moderation not only in Israel, but among Palestinians as well. Who else won the Israel election? Probably Hamas.
