What Putin wants

Disruption of America’s political institutions and our allies is secondary to what Vladimir Putin really needs from President Trump. Russia’s vast petroleum reserves require Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s expertise so that Russia can pump oil as efficiently and cost effectively as the Saudis. The international sanctions put in place as a result of the 2014 Russian annexation of Crimea, would need to be removed or conveniently circumvented.

With trillions of petrodollars at stake, no wonder Tass photographers caught Trump beaming gleefully with the Russians last week in the Oval Office. Putin is a master manipulator, and a simpleton like Trump is putty in his hands.

Our democracy is much more fragile than most Americans realize. We need an independent investigator before appointing the next FBI leader.
