As U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen leaves Congress after a distinguished and productive career in Tallahassee and Washington, a run for governor would be a great next act. I’m a Democrat, but I voted for her several times before redistricting moved me out of her district. I’d vote for her again.
Perhaps her long legislative experience could be what is needed to rein in the combative Florida Legislature.
It would certainly be an improvement over what we have now. I didn’t always agree with some of her votes, but I respect her for all that she has done for the residents in her district, and across the country. She voted her conscience rather than the political line.
I’m sure that Ros-Lehtinen will find some new way to continue serving the residents of Miami-Dade County and the state.
This was just my reaction to the news that she would not run for re election. Maybe she’s fed up with politics. But I can’t wait to see the next act, whatever it may be.
