The media win
Even though they didn’t have polls back then, you have to go to the election of 1860 to find two top candidates with such negative ratings. Abraham Lincoln had significant negative ratings in the south while John C. Breckenridge the same but in the North.
Unfortunately for us, neither one of today’s candidates seems to be the second coming of Lincoln. Ironically, the parties have something in common.
The loser outside of the subset of Trump supporters who will claim that the election was rigged will lament that their party did not nominate a normal candidate who would have won the election.
For example, the Democrats can say that Biden would have been better, while Republicans can say Kasich. The only winner is the media, with higher ratings due to non-stop scandals and increased ad revenue from all the political ads that have been run.
