Gun sense
In December 2012, 20 children and six adults were gunned down at Sandy Hook School in Newtown, Connecticut. Following the carnage, polls indicated that more than 90 percent of Americans were in favor of a background check on every gun sale. Common-sense legislation was proposed, only to be blocked in the U.S. Senate.
Sen. Marco Rubio has steadfastly obstructed any legislation to create rational gun laws to help our kids go to school safely. His opponent, Patrick Murphy, has backed bills that would expand background checks to assure criminals and people with mental illnesses cannot exploit loopholes in our laws and buy guns. He backs legislation that would require anyone buying weapons online or at a gun show to pass a background check.
Not a threat to the Second Amendment, just logical actions that will help protect citizens, including our vulnerable children. This is why I became a volunteer with the Florida chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and why I will be voting for Patrick Murphy.
We need a senator who values safety over gun-lobby dollars. Rubio has proven he does not fit the bill.
