Respect for all
It was heart warming to recently view the Ken Burns film, “Defying the Nazis: The Sharp War,” on PBS. As a Unitarian (now called Unitarian Universalist), I was very proud to see the Sharp story of love and sacrifice that this selfless couple exhibited at a time not unlike the world situation we face today. They lived our religious principles which affirm and promote the “inherent worth and dignity of every person, as well as justice, equity, and compassion in all human relations.”
We are living in precarious times when one of the persons who is running for the highest office of our land, spews hate toward those who might look or speak differently from “his idea of what America should look like!” He encourages fear, disdain, and disrespect of the unfamiliar.
Unitarian Universalists live their creed through deed. We respect and affirm all cultures. We are willing to confront the powers and structure of evil, with justice, compassion, and the transforming power of love. This film could not have arrived at a better time.
