I read this article (“After the game: pros and the money ball,” Business Monday, Sept. 12) with amusement, amazement and disgust. With so many investment opportunities in this great country, with so much medical research needed, so much poverty, illiteracy, hunger, lack of affordable housing, etc. etc., how could anyone in their right mind throw away millions of dollars? Are they nuts?
Yes, they worked hard to get to where they got, but don’t they know the statistics? Average playing life of an athlete? What about the other 50 years? Live on a couple of million dollars a year? Poor thing. These athletes need to be taught humility, responsibility and the fact that they are role models for millions of fans.
The lesson: Make the best of what God has given you and don’t waste money.
