True greatness

With reference to “Serena sets record for majors wins” on Sept. 6, congratulations to Serena Williams for surpassing Roger Federer and Martina Navratilova with now 309 Grand Slam match wins in the Open Era. To date, Serena has 22 Grand Slam singles titles and six U.S. Open wins in singles.

This is a tremendous accomplishment for a pro athlete at the highest level. We are so accustomed to watching her win with a powerful and intense game. It becomes important to recognize Serena Williams as a truly wondrous player, even if she lost on Thursday.
