Miami Herald Opinion team asks: What’s an issue you care about that’s being ignored?

As a team of opinion writers, we understand not every reader is going to agree with our take on the issues.

The very nature of opinion writing requires an Editorial Board to come to consensus on pressing issues, provide nuanced arguments, reasonable counterarguments, real-life examples and quotes from experts, all while tying it together with a read-me headline. Dissent and healthy discourse come as a natural result of this process.

But, we also know that certain readers might not feel heard or represented in the things we write about, and that’s something we want to change. We need to hear from as many different voices as possible in order for our work to better reflect the South Florida community. We want to make sure our editorials and columns resonate with all kinds of people — we’re not just talking liberal vs conservative — but anyone looking to read local opinions.

This starts with giving our readers more efficient ways to share their thoughts about the issues on which the Editorial Board weighs in. That’s where you come in.
