By this time last year, Greater Miami was firmly in the grip of a deadly pandemic, mourning the loss of almost 4,000 family members, friends and co-workers to the coronavirus. There had been more than 190,000 cases of COVID-19 diagnosed, and the vaccine that we hoped would fix it all had not yet arrived.

And still, on Give Miami Day 2020, community members donated a record-breaking amount of money to the hundreds of community organizations that are doing hard work here on our behalf.

It’s Give Miami Day again, and Miami’s making a recovery. Let’s break another record of giving.

Pick a personal passion, pick an enduring concern; then pick a nonprofit — or nonprofits — laboring in that particular field and make a donation. You have an almost endless field of choices. Support the arts, particularly hard-hit in the past 18 months. Help children at risk of abuse and neglect. Support the journalism that brings you vital news. And remember, sea-level rise is coming for us all.

Last year, this community raised more than $18 million on Give Miami Day — breaking the previous year’s record.

This time around, despite the financial pinch many of us still feel, can we do — or give — any less? Give today. In fact, give right now.
