Trump didn’t invite Parkland dad to White House? We have no words. OK, yes, we do | Editorial

Last week, Fred Guttenberg yelled at President Trump’s as he delivered the State of the Union address. It was rude and disrespectful, however justifiable it might have been, and Guttenberg was escorted from the chamber.

Guttenberg made a heartfelt apology, even though the anger he had expressed really was a cry of pain. His daughter Jaime was killed, along with 16 other people, in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting in Parkland in 2018. He remains livid that gun control is not on the president’s agenda and tried to tell him so.

But Trump isn’t feeling his pain (no surprise there). Guttenberg was not to be in attendance at the president’s White House announcement Monday on school safety along with other Parkland parents.

Guttenberg wasn’t invited.

Think of it this way: The president still has his daughters, Ivanka and Tiffany. Guttenberg lost his so tragically. Yet, Trump and his team had not one scintilla of empathy for this grieving father?

“Small” and “petty” are the nicest words we can use here.
