Be grateful for the lasting mark Kobe Bryant made in Miami | Editorial

Kobe Bryant, whether on the Lakers’ court out West or on the Miami Heat’s here at home, touched the players who have meant the most to South Floridians.

Dazzlingly talented LeBron James, the unforgettable former championship Miami Heat player, idolized Bryant, his touchstone and then his friend. James just surpassed Bryant’s record in total points scored in the NBA.

Bryant also laid the groundwork for Dwyane Wade, helping him redefine his contributions to the game as he matured, and aged.

Bryant, 41, and his daughter Gianna, 13, were among nine people killed in a helicopter crash on Sunday in Southern California. To all the words that will continue to accompany the loss of these young lives, we simply add our deepest condolences to their grieving survivors.
