Jimmy Buffett’s message

Letter writer Lance Stelzer misses the point of a Jimmy Buffett address to the graduates of the University of Miami.

There are many valid paths to success and happiness, and Buffett is living proof that earnestly pursuing a passion with dedication and hard work can make your wildest dreams come true. He has amassed fame and great fortune by eschewing a button-down lifestyle, and he’s well suited to champion the message that a successful life need not hew to a traditional path.

Yes, a politician or business titan could have stood up there and recited the virtues of convention and striving, but there’s a more important message: Be you. That’s a message every graduate needs to hear.
