Tropical Storm Erika forms in the Atlantic
Danny fizzled out on Monday, but he was followed closely by Erika.
Tropical Storm Erika formed Monday evening over the central tropical Atlantic Ocean, according to the National Hurricane Center’s 11 p.m. advisory.
As of 11 p.m., Erika was 955 miles east of the Leeward Islands and moving west at 20 mph. The storm had sustained winds of 45 mph.
No watches or warnings were in effect late Monday, but watches may be required for a portion of the Leeward Islands early Tuesday, forecasters said.
