Tropical Storm Gabrielle forms. Here’s where the forecast track takes it

Tropical Storm Gabrielle formed Wednesday morning and forecasters expect it to reach hurricane strength over the weekend.

The 2 p.m. track forecast released by the National Hurricane Center shows a path that steers clear of the Caribbean and Florida, but one that could pose a threat to Bermuda next week.

Forecasters noted the track remained highly uncertain until a center formed but, “ based on the recent trends, this system should pass well east and north of the Windward and Leeward Islands.”

The hurricane center is also tracking a tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic.

The hurricane center is also tracking a tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic with a low chance of developing into a tropical depression or storm anytime soon. As of Wednesday afternoon, forecasters gave it a 20% chance of formation in the next seven days and a 10% chance in the next two days, a slight uptick from the day before.
