The National Hurricane Center is tracking a new tropical system on Friday, far off in the Atlantic, with marginal chances of development.

According to its 8 p.m. advisory, the system is a tropical wave more than 800 miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands off Africa, causing thunderstorms and showers.

There could be some gradual development late this weekend through early next week if the environmental conditions improve around the system.

For now, forecasters do no predict much if any strengthening. It has no chance of forming in the next two days, but a 20% chance in the next week as it moves west to west-northwest at around 10 mph.
