Tropical Storm Andrea, first of the season, forms far off in the Atlantic
The first tropical storm of the season, Andrea, formed in the Atlantic on Tuesday morning, but forecasters say it will be short-lived.
The National Hurricane Center predicts that the storm will begin to power down by Tuesday night, becoming a post-tropical remnant low as it enters chillier water and then dissipating on Wednesday.
“The system has met the criteria of being classified as a tropical storm, albeit a marginal one,” forecasters wrote in an earlier discussion.
Andrea marks the farthest northeast storm formation point on record for June since 1900, noted Ryan Truchelut of Weather Tiger in his newsletter.
