Are highway tolls suspended in Florida ahead of Hurricane Milton’s arrival?
Florida has suspended tolls on several highways and roads, including Alligator Alley in Broward County and the Sunshine Skyway along Tampa Bay, with the goal of quicker evacuations as Milton approaches the Gulf Coast.
“With evacuation orders ... this will help keep traffic moving and be one less thing for people to worry about ahead of Milton,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said about his order.
Tolls were suspended Monday, Oct .7, for a seven-day stretch. They will be reinstated at noon Oct. 14, according to the governor’s office..
“Suspending tolls across the central and west part of the state and Alligator Alley offers an additional option for families to easily get out of the storm’s direct path,” said Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jared W. Perdue.
The Florida Department of transportation also is allowing the use of emergency shoulders on portions of Interstate 75 to keep traffic moving. I-75. Cars were backed up on Monday as people headed north from the Tampa Bay region.
