Forecasters track a tropical disturbance in Atlantic. It might affect Haiti, Puerto Rico
Hurricane forecasters are tracking a tropical disturbance over the open Atlantic Ocean. It has no chance of forming into something stronger in the next two days. In a week’s time, it has ticked up since Friday night’s 20% odds.
Puerto Rico, Haiti and Cuba might see some effects in the coming days.
Development chances
The system has a zero percent chance of developing over the weekend but a 40% chance of forming into something else in the next seven days, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
Where is the disturbance?
As of the 8 p.m. Saturday advisory, the National Hurricane Center said the area of “disturbed weather” was hovering around the central tropical Atlantic and was expected to interact with a coming tropical wave during the next several days.
If environmental conditions hold up, it could become a tropical depression around midweek while the system is near or over the northern Leeward Islands, Greater Antilles or southwestern Atlantic Ocean.
