A tropical depression could form this week in the Caribbean. What’s the forecast?

A low-pressure system over the central Caribbean Sea could strengthen into a tropical depression later this week, the National Hurricane Center said Wednesday.

What’s the forecast for AL97 in the Caribbean?

The low-pressure system, a disturbance called AL97, remained disorganized over the central Caribbean.

“Environmental conditions could become a little more conducive for some development over the next couple of days before the system moves inland over Central America by this weekend,” the hurricane center said. “Regardless of development, this system has the potential to produce heavy rains over portions of Central America late this week and into the weekend.”

Formation chance through 48 hours: 20%, unchanged since the 2 p.m. Tuesday advisory.

Formation chance through seven days: 30%, down from 40% from the 2 p.m. Wednesday advisory.

Will Florida be impacted?

This system isn’t expected to impact the Sunshine State.
