The National Hurricane Center is tracking a tropical wave that, while still far away from Florida, is sending moisture across the Atlantic toward the state.

According to the National Hurricane Center’s 8 p.m. Thursday advisory, the tropical wave in the Eastern Atlantic off the coast of Africa was a several hundred miles to the southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.

Here’s what the advisory says.

“Environmental conditions are expected to be favorable for gradual development of this system in a few days, and a tropical depression could form early next week while the system moves generally west to west-northwest over the tropical Atlantic,” hurricane specialists Jack Beven and Larry Kelly said.

Formation chance through the next 48 hours: Low at 0%.

Formation chance through the next seven days: Medium, at 40%.

Will the tropical wave affect Florida?

It’s too early to tell if this tropical wave will have any impact in Florida or the U.S.

But the system is pushing moisture toward South Florida. The Miami-area on Wednesday saw increased rain and thunderstorms. A flood watch was issued Wednesday and lasts through Friday morning.

Parts of Miami-Dade, Broward and the Keys were drenched early Thursday.

The wet weather is forecast to continue into the weekend and into the work week, according to the National Weather Service in Miami. Bur for the first time since July 4th, there was no heat advisory issued for Miami-Dade Thursday.
