Forecasters were monitoring a disturbance off the southeast U.S. coast on Tuesday while a tropical wave was bringing downpours in the Caribbean Sea and another was moving away from the coast of Africa.

Here’s what the National Hurricane Center had to say about the systems in its 8 p.m. Tuesday advisory.

Tropical wave off the coast of Africa

A tropical wave is located south of the Cabo Verde Islands and off the coast of Africa.

Development chances

Some development of this system is possible later this week and into the weekend while it moves west or west-northwest over the tropical Atlantic.

Formation chance through the next 48 hours: Low at 0%.

Formation chance through the next seven days: Also low, at 20%.

Will the tropical wave affect Florida?

It is too early to tell if this tropical wave will have any impact in Florida.

“If there’s any area to watch into this weekend, it will be in the open tropical Atlantic,” NBC meteorologist Ryan Phillips said Tuesday afternoon on Twitter. “Development chance is low, but we’re upon the season to find the action here.”

Tropical wave in the Caribbean

At about 8 p.m., a tropical wave over the southeastern Caribbean Sea was producing a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms, with some locally heavy rains over portions of the Windward Islands.

Development chances

According to the hurricane center, “development of this system is not anticipated while it continues to move rapidly westward over the Caribbean during the next few days.”

Formation chance through the next 48 hours: Low, near 0%.

Formation chance through the next seven days: Also low, at near 0%.

Will the tropical wave affect Florida?

The system is not expected to affect Florida at this point.

Disturbance off the southeast U.S. coast

A weak area of low pressure was a few hundred miles southwest of Bermuda.

Development chances

Significant development of this system appears unlikely while it moves moves west-northwest toward the southeastern U.S. coast over the next several days.

Formation chance through the next 48 hours: Low, near 0%.

Formation chance through the next seven days: Also low, at 10%.

Will the disturbance affect Florida?

“Some models do track this disturbance toward the east coast of Florida later on this week,” according to WUFT’s Florida Public Radio Emergency Network. “Even though conditions are only marginally favorable for development into a significant storm, residents should take precautions and make sure we are prepared no matter what.”
