The National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area of low pressure that could develop into a tropical system this week.

Here are the details:

Where is it?

Location: The Central Atlantic system could form in the next several days several hundred miles to the east-northeast of Bermuda, according to a National Hurricane Center update early Monday.

Will it get stronger?

Tropical: Forecasters say the system is expected to interact with an upper-level trough, and could acquire some subtropical or tropical characteristics later this week.

Where is it heading?

Direction: It’s expected to pivot southeast to northeast.

Will it affect Florida?

The state is not expected to be affected at this time. “It is going to be moving away into the northern Atlantic,” said CBS News Miami meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez.

Watches/Warnings?

None issued.

Forecast

Development: By the weekend, the low is expected to turn north, bringing the system over cooler waters and likely limiting additional development.

Chances of formation: Formation chance through 48 hours is near 0% and formation chance through seven days is 30%.
