Similar to Gonzalo, another tropical depression may form in tropical Atlantic Ocean
Another tropical depression may be forming from the same area now-gone Tropical Storm Gonzalo came from, forecasters say. It has a high chance of developing early next week.
In its 8 p.m. advisory, the National Hurricane Center said a broad area of low pressure associated with a tropical wave several hundred miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands has a high chance of becoming a tropical depression early next week while it moves westward across the tropical Atlantic.
Forecasts show the disturbance has a 50% chance of forming into a cyclone in the next 48 hours and a 80% chance of forming into a cyclone within the next five days.
Earlier this week, Gonzalo also went from a wave to a depression in the tropical Atlantic. This new disturbance would be the ninth tropical depression to form in the 2020 hurricane season.
Forecasters are also watching Hurricane Hanna, which has made landfall along the coast of Texas. The storm graduated to hurricane status Saturday morning after forming in the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday night.
NOAA has predicted this will be an active hurricane season, with 13 to 19 named storms.
