The rain is pouring down on South Florida, prompting the National Weather Service in Miami to issue a flash flood warning Sunday.

The warning is in effect for parts of Miami-Dade until 8 p.m.

Miami Beach is getting drenched as the NWS says that, around 6:45 p.m., trained weather spotters reported thunderstorms producing between 2 and 7 inches of rain.

“Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area,” forecasters wrote. “Flash flooding is already occurring.”

On Sunday evening, around a dozen stranded cars could be seen near Baptist Hospital from flash flooding that was filling the streets.

Affected areas include: Miami, Miami Beach, Virginia Key, Miami Shores, North Bay Village, El Portal, Port Of Miami, Fisher Island and Downtown Miami.

Parts of Broward County were under the warning until 6 p.m.

“Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads,” the NWS wrote in their flash flood warning. “Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.”
