The rain is pouring down Tuesday across South Florida after the start of a dry spring season, and it came with weather alerts issued by the National Weather Service.

A special marine warning and a flood advisory were issued by the National Weather Service in Miami.

At 2:55 p.m., strong thunderstorms capable of producing waterspouts, high winds and large hail were detected over Biscayne Bay and offshore waters from Deerfield Beach to Ocean Reef. These storms are moving northeast at 20 knots, creating dangerous conditions for boaters.

Areas at risk include Key Biscayne, Port Everglades, Surfside, Coral Gables and surrounding coastal waters. Boaters are urged to seek safe harbor immediately.

In addition to the marine warning, a flood advisory is in effect for Miami-Dade County until 4:45 p.m. Heavy rainfall from thunderstorms has already dropped up to two inches of rain, with another two inches possible, leading to urban and small stream flooding.

Streets in Miami, Hialeah, Miami Beach, North Miami and nearby areas may experience some flooding.

Residents should avoid driving through flooded roads, as most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. If you encounter standing water, remember: Turn around, don’t drown.
