Memorial Day weekend will remain mostly dry, with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms
Beachgoers rejoice.
After a mostly dry day to start off the Memorial Day holiday weekend, Sunday will mostly be sunny too.
But take advantage while you can. As we get closer to the afternoon hours, the likelihood of isolated storms in South Florida increases, according to the National Weather Service.
Sunday will be “mostly sunny” with a high near 85 and a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4 p.m., according to the day’s forecast.
But if you make it to the beach, be careful in the water. There is a high risk of rip currents at East Coast beaches, the NWS warned in a tweet Sunday.
If you’re planning on boating, the weather service says there are “cautionary marine conditions” through Sunday and the risk of rip currents will remain high through the week, according to the weather service.
What about for Memorial Day itself? The forecast shows a 20% chance of rain after 2 p.m. with a high near 86 degrees.
The chance of rain increases as the week goes on, with a 30 to 40% chance (increasing at night) and 40 to 60% chance on Wednesday. Thursday was showing a whopping 70%.
Periods of heavy rain will be possible and could lead to localized flooding in the east coast metro areas, forecasters warned.
