How cold did it get in South Florida Tuesday morning?

We woke up to the upper 40s and 50s through Miami-Dade and Broward, said CBS Miami meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez. She shared her shivering stats and said the cold comes from an “arctic front that’s bringing the polar plunge here across our state.”

The Keys were slightly warmer, with the upper 50s and 60s.

“You certainly will need to bundle up if you’re headed out this morning,” Gonzalez advised her early viewers, with the highs in South Florida rising only to the mid 60s.

Gonzalez listed lows on Veterans Day across South Florida. The numbers represent a steep drop of 20 to 28 degrees colder on Tuesday than it was just the day before, on Monday.

  • 49 in Miami, Hialeah, Sweetwater, Homestead and Miami Shores.
  • 50 in Miami Beach.
  • 51 in South Miami.
  • 48 in Fort Lauderdale and Weston.
  • 49 in Davie and Miramar.

“Oy! One of you dropped your weather on us in Florida! It fell all the way to Miami! We don’t want it! Kindly come and get it as soon as possible! It’s not welcome here! Stupid cold,” Patrick D. Neary posted on Facebook.

An administrator on Facebook’s SoloenCalle8 page saw the chill as city pride — and a business op.

“A rare cold front is hitting South Florida, with temps dropping into the 50s — yes, even Calle 8 will feel the chill! Grab your cafecito, throw on that sweater, and enjoy the cozy side of Miami. Because the weather may cool down, but Little Havana’s energy never does! “

Cold-stunned iguanas even fell from the trees. They’ll revive if left alone. But falling iguanas are South Florida’s version of snow.

Colder around Florida

If you think it’s cold here in South Florida, Central Florida woke up to the upper 30s in Orlando and Tampa. And it was below freezing in Tallahassee and Jacksonville. Winter watches and warnings and freeze alerts were in effect for much of the state, but not South Florida.

Here’s a look at Florida’s low morning temperatures:

  • 31 in Tallahassee and Jacksonville.
  • 37 in Orlando.
  • 39 in Tampa.
  • 36 in Pensacola.

Veterans Day will remain cool and breezy and climb to 69 by the afternoon with wind gusts at and above 25 mph. These will lead to dangerous rip currents at South Florida beaches. But are you really planning a dip today?

Expect another chilly wake-up call on Wednesday morning, with temperatures around 59 in Miami-Dade and Broward. It will warm up more each day through the weekend.

The forecast, according to the National Weather Service, calls for the mid- to upper-60s through Sunday. But highs in the afternoon will reach 75 Wednesday, 77 Thursday and return to the 80s Friday through the weekend into Monday.
