South Florida gets its first taste of fall as cold front moves in. Will it last?
South Florida is getting its first real taste of fall as a cold front moves through the region on Thursday, according to forecasters. Highs are expected to reach the lower 80s with temperatures dipping to the 60s— a welcome break after the long hot summer and early fall.
Friday morning temperatures should drop to 65, and the weekend looks good with cooler temperatures and scant rain. Perfect weather for playing outside!
The cold front is being driven by a trough — an area of lower pressure that helps steer weather systems — while winds will be on the breezier side due to Hurricane Melissa’s influence in the western Atlantic, the National Weather Service in Miami said.
Northwest winds on Thursday are expected to range between 20 and 30 mph but should ease by Friday. Dry conditions will continue through the weekend, with little to no rain in the forecast.
The strong winds and swells by Melissa have forecasters warning beachgoers about rip currents—particularly in Palm Beach and Broward counties. Miami beaches are at “moderate risk” on Thursday, but that may be elevated during the early weekend, NWS forecaster say.
