When will South Florida dry out? See the forecast on flash flood alerts, storms
Swamped cars. Cloud to ground lightning. Vengeful storm clouds.
South Florida has lived these lousy afternoons all week — and Friday’s forecast calls for more of the same.
Storms are forecast to begin rolling in off the Everglades toward Miami-Dade and Broward counties after 2 p.m. and are forecast to pop again at rush hour, according to CBS Miami meteorologist Scott Withers.
“Another rainy, stormy day,” he said Friday morning. “And unfortunately it’s not just today.”
A marginal flash flood alert was in effect Friday in South Florida, according to CBS Miami’s Next Weather forecasting. Storm chances reach up to 70% from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. hour, for school pickup and the afternoon commute home.
“You are likely going to see the water pile up on the roadways and in the parking lots,” Withers said.
The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flooding advisory through 3 p.m. Friday in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.
Saturday is shaping up to be a repeat. That means afternoon tailgating could get soaked at Hard Rock Stadium for the UM-USF football matchup, although the weather will be improving for the game itself that starts late afternoon and stretches into the evening.
Things mellow out a bit Sunday for the Dolphins home opener and into the start of the workweek.
And more good news: Temperatures should be cooler than the steady stream of heat warnings that opened September. Look for highs in the mid-80s and lows in the upper -70s.

- Saturday: 7 p.m. at 44%.
- Sunday: 4 p.m. at 48%.
