Heat advisory for all of Florida. In South Florida, will feel like 104 degrees or higher
The sweltering heat and humidity are continuing to bear down on Florida, prompting the National Weather Service on Friday to issue heat advisories across the state.
In Miami-Dade and Broward counties, the heat advisory will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, with heat index values, the temperature when you mix in humidity, ranging between 104 and 109 degrees. In the Florida Keys, the heat index could reach up to 111 degrees. The advisory there is from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The statewide heat advisories followed Thursday’s heat advisories and excessive heat warnings. The Panhandle was under an excessive heat warning on Thursday with feel-like temperatures of 115 degrees.
The NWS issues a heat advisory for Miami-Dade and Broward when the heat index is expected to reach 105°F or higher for at least two hours, and for the Keys at 108°F or more. Excessive heat warnings are issued for Miami-Dade and Broward when temperatures feel like 110°F or higher, and for the Keys at 113°F or more.
Although excessive heat warnings are not in effect for Friday, heat advisories remain a serious health concern.
The National Weather Service recommends staying indoors, staying hydrated, and avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours. It’s crucial to stay in air-conditioned spaces, wear lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing, and shield yourself from UV rays with a hat and sunscreen if you must be outside.
For those who need to work outdoors, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration advises taking frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
