South Florida may get some rain bands from Idalia, which is forecast to hit the Gulf Coast as a Category 3 hurricane. But before that, the region has been placed under a heat advisory.

Temperatures are expected to feel like 110 on Tuesday for several hours, which triggered the advisory from the National Weather Service. The so-called heat index, more like a misery index, combines air temperature and humidity.

Forecasters say the actual high temperature in South Florida on Tuesday will rise to about 92 degrees.

Rain chance is 50%, with the worst of the weather coming in the afternoon and evening, including occasional bands from Hurricane Idalia approaching the Gulf Coast of Florida.

“We will feel minimum impacts compared to folks along the west coast of our state,” said Lissette Gonzalez, a meteorologist with Miami Herald news partner CBS News Miami. “But we can expect gusty rain bands with 1-2 inches possible.”

The Lower Keys will feel that even more, she said, with gusts of 35-45 mph and a storm surge of one to two feet.

The wind in the Miami area also will kick up later Tuesday, with gusts as high as 28 mph, according to the weather service in Miami.
