Hitting the road or the water for Memorial Day weekend? Sticking around South Florida?

Wherever you spend the holiday, you’ll want to take note of the weather outlook in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, the Keys and the rest of Florida.

Here’s what to expect:

South Florida forecast

The National Weather Service in Miami predicts a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday and Sunday in South Florida and 30% Monday. Blame it on the rainy season.

Despite the soggy disruption of your outdoor afternoon activities or travels, you’ll be able to enjoy the first half of every day with a clear sky.

“Everything will be a hit-or-miss type of thing,” said meteorologist Chuck Caracozza of the National Weather Service in Miami.

This week’s intense storms in Miami-Dade and Broward, which set off flood advisories and shut part of Fort Lauderdale’s airport, will span the rest of the week into Friday, but then ease over the weekend and holiday, Caracozza said.

One possible cause of the stormy weather is a disturbance of disorganized showers and thunderstorms off the coast of central Florida, the National Hurricane Center said. A non-tropical area of low pressure is expected to form Friday night but is unlikely to become a subtropical or tropical cyclone while it moves north over the Carolinas this weekend.

Forecasters said the system will likely produce gusty winds, dangerous surf and rip current conditions along portions of the southeastern United States.

A disturbance off the coast of central Florida may be cause heavy rain and rip currents along the southeast U.S. this weekend.
